This 2002 collection of short stories created a tidal wave of praise for Chiang, with all the major review organs creaming over it. The stories also snagged a bunch of major prizes, and the collection itself won a Locus Award. Chiang, however, was displeased with how the book turned out. Small Beer reports that they worked closely with him to produce it as he originally envisioned it. This edition includes the original eight shorts plus the author's notes on each story.
